Akerly departs WLNS after 21 years

Dave AkerlyDave Akerly, lead news anchor at Young Broadcasting’s WLNS (Channel 6) in Lansing, is leaving the station after 21 years of service.

Dave Akerly, who has been with WLNS since 1990 and a main anchor for the Lansing CBS-affiliate since 2002, is leaving the station after August 1st.

“They say that all good things must come to an end,” Akerly posted on his Facebook wall this week. “After nearly 21 years on the anchor desk of TV-6, first in Sports, then in news, I will be leaving WLNS.”

Akerly joined the station as a weekend anchor and was promoted to sports director in 1991. After more than a decade of covering Michigan State’s football and basketball triumphs, Akerly transitioned to news anchor.

Nexstar completes purchase of WFRV and WJMN

WJMNNexstar Broadcasting Group completed the purchase of WFRV in Green Bay and WJMN in Marquette from Liberty Media. Joseph Denk is the new vice president and general manager of both stations.

Nexstar Broadcasting Group announced today that it completed the previously announced purchase of CBS affiliates WFRV Green Bay, Wis. (DMA 71), and WJMN Marquette, Mich. (DMA 179), and has appointed Joseph Denk vice president and general manager of both stations and their associated e-Media operations.

The stations were purchased from an affiliate of Liberty Media Corp. for $20 million and, the company said, are expected to be immediately accretive to Nexstar’s operating results. The deal’s completion means Nexstar owns, operates, programs or provides sales and other services to 13 CBS affiliates and a total of 65 television stations and related digital signals in 36 markets in 16 states, and reaches approximately 13.5 million television households.
